Behind the Hebrew vowels
Originally, the Hebrew written language was based on consonants only. When it became too difficult to memorize how to read the Torah precisely, some dots and lines were added as vowels. Let’s see how dots and lines can change our word, ספר.

Where are the vowels in Modern Hebrew?
Young children learn how to read with vowels, and most Hebrew Bibles and prayer books use vowels. But, in our daily life, we preserve the ancient heritage and take the shortcut: we actually write with no vowels (what a relief…) and simply rely on the consonants and the context to read our language.
