The Semitic DNA

Remember the words that were mentioned earlier…? Head, first, Sunday, Prime-minister, Genesis, New-Year. Think about their mutual meaning. They are all related to things that are in the beginning. Head is where our body begins, Sunday is the first day of the Jewish week, Genesis means "in the beginning", etc. Now, let's look at these words in Hebrew.

The Root Method

ראש, ראשון, יום ראשון, ראש ממשלה, בראשית, ראש השנה
The three letters: ראש appear in all of these words!

These three letters are the DNA of this family of words. We refer to them as the Root (Shoresh). So, how can it help us recognize new words in Hebrew?
When we meet a new word, we can recognize its root. That will help us understand the meaning of the new word.
