Israel Desert Blossoms
Nowadays, the heart of the Northern Negev desert (midbar ha-negev) wears a beautiful red garment. Year after year, once rains have fallen on this arid desert, nature awakens full of beauty and splendor. Wild seeds sprout and end their winter dormancy. You can observe butterflies flying between the red petals of the anemone (kalanit) and poppy (pereg).
Not so far away, the almond tree expands its branches to all directions enriched in pink and white blossom. The almond tree rushes to flourish, and therefore called Shaked (Shaked comes from the Hebrew root SH.K.D. which expresses diligence). The Shaked heralds the arrival of spring (aviv) and the era of peace. The bees humming around the sweet and fragrant nectar create an unusual spectacle in the desert. How can one stay indifferent to the land of Israel wearing its best garments?
